CASE STUDY: Full Wireless Internet Service with Failover 21Aug We recently spent a week working with a long-term client in Horsham and Warracknabeal, who has been with us for 15 years. Most recently, in June and August 2024, we assisted them with upgrading their server room cabinet, repatching their total computer network and IP phone system and assisted with a significant internet service upgrade to introduce better stability, speed, performance, and reliability. We upgraded their primary internet service to Spirit/Freedom Wireless and set up a failover system using SpaceX StarLink satellite internet. Spirit/Freedom Internet: (Primary Internet) 100/100Mbit @ 3ms. SpaceX StarLink: (Secondary Internet) 260/30Mbit @ 35ms. WatchGuard Firewall: 1Gbit network connectivity. Network Switches: 1Gbit network connectivity. Additionally, we enhanced their firewall to secure and GEO lock their network and implement the WatchGuard SD-WAN function. This allows the firewall to manage automatic failover and failback between internet services. When their primary internet service drops, the firewall switches over to the secondary internet service and continues running until the primary internet service returns. Then, it switches back to the primary internet connection. These upgrades have allowed this client to operate entirely wirelessly, utilizing both wireless and satellite internet for all their telephone, cloud networking, and browsing needs, without relying on traditional wired internet services like NBN, optical fibre, or ethernet. Before Spirit/Freedom Internet and SpaceX StarLink were available, before their wireless upgrade, they only had access to NBN Fibre-to-the-Node/Curb internet services, which were very high latency and congested. As wireless services became available, corporate/business-grade internet services became available, but the option of going wireless and off-grid internet connectivity was chosen.
