Lenovo Chromebook Range

lenovo-chromebook-rangeFrom time to time, we look at hardware solutions that are fit for purpose and suitable to be used for our cloud network.

Recently we saw that Lenovo (one of our preferred brands), released a new Chromebook range. See Lenovo’s Chromebook range here:

Chromebook is an operating system entirely developed by Google. It great for being lightweight and very cloud computing specific. We had them when they first came out but found they were always missing some software, so we never really promoted or pushed them.

Last week, I was given, the new Lenovo Chromebook C340, to try and see if I could replace my full Lenovo ThinkPad Windows based laptop. So I configured it and started install all the software required for me to work. The software I installed was:

  • VMWare Horizon Client
  • Adobe Acrobat,
  • Teamviewer,
  • Firefox,
  • Microsoft Edge,
  • Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams & OneDrive),
  • Netflix, Stan and Disney+ (just cause I could and to test video performance), and
  • iTunes & Spotify.

So pretty much everything I usually load on my windows based laptop I was able to load on this Chromebook.

ADVANTAGES
The primary advantage of using a Chromebook is the fact is highly reliant on the cloud, so if you are connected to the cloud with a platform like ours, its perfect. You wont be saving any data locally you will just use it as a device to connect to our network.

The other advantage is its $549.00, a carry bag and Bluetooth mouse is an extra $99.

So for just under $650 you have a laptop that is secure (cause you don’t save any data on it), its lightweight and it will last 10-12 hours on a full charge.

It is even a great device to have spare in your office, in case a machine plays up, a staff member needs to do work in a meeting room with a client, or even to take home and do work on.
